Planet BitFolk is a blog / feed aggregator that syndicates the blogs and updates of BitFolk, its customers and hangers-on.

Web site

The web site lives at https://planet.bitfolk.com/.

Adding feeds

The configuration is managed in GitHub so please see that repository for information about how to add and remove feeds, etc. Anyone even tenuously related to BitFolk is generally welcome to add their feed.

You can of course also remove your feed if you don't like it being there.

Other uses

Aside from the static web site being built from the list of feeds in config.ini the planet IRC bot also gets its feed list from here.

Experimental

This effort is an experiment. Many people say that blogging is dead and hipsters only post their stuff on silos that have no aggregation features. If that turns out to be true then this experiment will be abandoned.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does the site update?

At the moment, once per hour.

Why hasn't my post appeared even though it's many hours after posting?

Assuming your feed does actually appear in the configuration and it's really been more than an hour, there could be some problem with your feed. Submit an issue or ask grifferz or something.

Things that often break feeds:

  • Having an article with a bizarre date like 1 January 0001 (Hugo is known to do this for non-blog articles).

Why is the site giving me security warnings?

The site's TLS certificate should be valid but we can't stop people embedding non-secure content—like images with an http link—into their own articles. That will give a mixed security warning.

If you see any other sort of security warning please let someone know – a subscribed feed could have been compromised.

Why is your web design so feeble?

Because grifferz is a feeble web designer. The default.css is in the GitHub repository so if you think you can do better please have a go and submit a pull request.
